ABSTRACT. – Asteraceae and Bignoniaceae plants possess chemical compounds with insecticide potential. The extraction yield and repellent activity of Lepidoploa aurea Mart. ex DC. (Asteraceae) and Memora nodosa (Manso) Miers (Bignoniaceae) were assessed against Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Oryzaephilus surinamensis L. (Coleoptera: Cucujidae) and Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) through free-choice test. Lepidoploa aurea and M. nodosa showed good extraction yield. At 0.1 %, L. aurea (S. zeamais) and M. nodosa (S. zeamais and O. surinamensis) presented repellent activity. However, T. castaneum was not affected by botanical extracts of these plants. Extracts of L. aurea and M. nodosa can be used in order to repel stored grain pests, especially O. surinamensis and S. zeamais.
